Review : Urban Decay The Black Palette

You may recall seeing The Black Palette on one of my Christmas Wish lists, well I was a lucky girl as Santa got me the exact palette that I wanted!

Isn't it pretty? The glitter, the black, the silver writing, LOVE.

The palette contains one matte black colour, five shimmery colours, a black eyeliner pencil and UD Primer in Eden.

without primer
L-R Black Dog, Baracuda, Jet, Sabbath, Cobra & Libertine
with primer

Black Dog, Baracuda, Jet, Sabbath
Close ups with primer
Jet, Sabbath, Cobra, Libertine
As you can the primer does show up on my skin, which could look quite nasty if I don't cover it properly.

These colours are very intense, this palette is perfect for creating a dramatic eye look. These are some of the looks I created using just these eyeshadows with no primer.

The colours are all very build-able and blend well. The only downside for me with this palette is that it doesn't contain a brush. The reason that annoyed me is that I love the brush provided in the Naked palette and had hoped for another.

My palette was a gift so I'm not sure where it was purchased, I have however found various retailers that sell this palette.

Cosmetic Kingdom £21.99 (Damaged exterior plastic box)
Cute Cosmetics £22.95
ASOS £25

Have you tried this palette? What is your favourite UD palette? I can see their palettes becoming an obsession for me!

  1. I love this palette! Must buy it. Boring I know but I love my Naked palette! :D xx

  2. I haven't tried this one! The colours are a bit too dark for me I think, I'm boring you see :D haha, I stick to my naked palette <3 Best damn palette around! I love UD.

  3. Omg them colours are like my dream colours! perfect!

  4. It's like Santa reads your blog to find out what you want! :) That purpley shade is beautiful but I'm quite scared of black shadow (I think I'm too pale to wear them most of the time)

  5. ohhh its lovely ive never bought any ud palletes because i only really used black/grey/white shadow so in fact this would be perfect for me. XXXXX

  6. looks like these can be used for some stunning looks. The palette looks fab x

  7. Ooh that is such a gorgeous palette, I love the colours! xxx

  8. I got this palette in Boots (sigh, if only they still sold UD!) before last Christmas - I think it was November 2010 and they had 3 for 2 on all cosmetics and the palettes were included! I went overboard and got 9 palettes (not all the same obv haha) some for myself and some for gifts, was amazing. Shockingly I've not really used this much, as its a bit more of a going out look, but this blog post has made me want to give it a go so thanks :D x

  9. i like dark colors, i like this palette :D great review ;)

  10. nice palette best for smokey eyes

  11. Ohhh i dont really wear much eyeshadow ( as i tend to look more like a drag queen with too much on! O_O) but you have swayed me on this one! I especially like the greener one.

Hope you had a great new year! xx

  16. I can imagine you would get a lot of use out of this palette x

  17. I need to get practising some looks with it as I'm sure, as you say, I could create some stunning looks using it x

  18. I didn't know that Boots once did UD. I'm kind of glad they don't do it now as I'd never have any money, not that I have any way mind!
3 for 2 on UD palettes would be my dream!
No problem, I hope you enjoy using this palette once again xx
