Despite this comment I will continue to post my monthly GlossyBox posts, why? Because they generate a lot of page views, which tells me that they are popular posts. I will also continue with my close up picture of the box, why? Because I don't want to spoil GlossyBox for those that haven't yet received their box and want a surprise, by posting a photo of the box I give people an advance warning and they know to avoid the post if they don't want any spoilers.
I was quite disappointed by my box last month and had decided that this box would be the decider of whether to un-sub or not.
DuWop Venom Gloss in Buttercup 5ml approx £7.69
GlossyBox say : Combining subtle tinted lip gloss with DuWop's Lip Venom to create Venom Gloss.
They also warned people of the tingling effect this has, probably to avoid uproar, remember the Vinies facemask in the Boudoir Prive box?
I say : I'm not normally a fan of plumping lip products as I find that they make my lips tingle but don't have the desired plumping effect, this one however does plump my lips, only slightly but still it does what it says on the tin which I like. This smells absolutely gorgeous. The only thing stopping me re-purchasing this is the price tag, I can't justify spending £16 on a lip gloss.
GlossyBox have provided us with a 20% discount code for the full size gloss. They just haven't bothered to tell us where we can use said discount.
Dr Bronner's Magic Liquid Soap 18 in 1 Hemp Peppermint 59ml (full size) £1.99
GlossyBox say : A combination of organic extra virgin coconut, olive, jojoba and hemp oils, together with pure essential oils.
I say : This is one of the products that disappointed me. My first thoughts were, a hand sanitiser, in a beauty box? I then realised that you can use it for more than a hand sanitiser. This came as a great relief as the product smells so strongly of peppermint that I really dislike using it on my hands. The writing on the bottle is ridiculously small but after checking their website I have discovered that it can also be used for washing your clothes, light cleaning & heavy duty grease cutting cleaning and everyday body wash.
I'm still not impressed that I received this in a box that contains luxury beauty samples.
Paul Mitchell Round Trip 25ml approx £1.62
GlossyBox say : This liquid curl definer is fast drying for enhanced curls in an instant.
I say : Quite a controversial product to send out when the beauty profiles aren't working correctly. I've seen a lot of people annoyed as they've received this despite having poker straight hair. My hair has a natural kink to it but not enough to go curly, I will try this out to see if it defines my kink into more of a curl. The smell reminds me exactly of a hairdressers which I like.
BM Beauty Pure Mineral Eyeshadow, Her Majesty 1g approx £3.50
Glossy Box say : Award winning pure mineral eyeshadow. Cruelty free and suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
I say : This is very similar to the Jane Iredale Gold Dust that I received in my December JolieBox, which I still haven't used. The fact that I haven't used it is just personal preference, there is nothing wrong with that one and neither is there with this one. I would have preferred a different shade but that is the luck of the draw when signing up to these boxes. This seems like a lovely product and I like that its cruelty free.
Como Shambhala Invigorate Body Lotion 50ml approx £3.33
GlossyBox say : A revitalising blend of essential oils that puts you in a perfectly uplifted mood.
I say : This product was the main downfall to this months GlossyBox in my personal opinion. If, like me, you have subscribed from the beginning you will remember that we received this exact same product in the very first box. I have nothing against this product, in fact I used it all up and enjoyed using it. I personally feel that repeat products kind of defeat the object of GlossyBox, isn't it about trying out new things?
This card is the one thing that is stopping me unsubscribing straight away (well, this and the fact that their website is displaying some dodgy German message when I try and log in!), I'm curious as to what this mystery box business is all about. No doubt a load of hype about nothing but I need to know!
Overall verdict :
- My rough estimate of the total box price is £18.13, this amount seems to be lower every month.
- I received one full size item, that cost £1.99 and I wouldn't describe as a beauty product.
- Again I've been left very disappointed, I feel that every month I am staying put because they promise something great the following month, but never deliver. I have been with GB from day one and do feel that I should stay loyal to them, as far as I'm aware they were the first beauty box in the UK. They now have so many competitors but fail to deliver. I need to make my decision soon.
If I haven't put you off completely you can subscribe to GlossyBox for £10 per month plus £2.95 P&P.
