Review : Pure Potions Baby Skincare - Baby Oil & Nappy Salve

Following on from the success of her award-winning natural cure developed for her daughter's chronic eczema, Natalie Balmond decided to take the formulation one step further and develop a range of 100% natural adult and baby skincare products. Included in this range are the chamomile baby oil and lavender nappy salve, both of which are made from 100% natural ingredients.

Aria has always suffered with dry skin as a result of being overdue. We have been told to try keeping things that we use on her as natural as possible to prevent further irritation.

The suggested uses for the chamomile baby oil are during bathing, for baby massage and as a substitute for baby wipes with warm water and cotton wool.

We decided to add the oil into Aria's baths, we've not learnt baby massage and Aria's poos are far too messy to use cotton wool balls, we'd be there for a long time!

We add a couple of drops of the oil into the bath water each time and make sure that we rub the oily water right into her skin. We have seen a massive improvement in her dry skin since using this, I originally didn't rub the oily water into her head as I worried it would leave her hair greasy. I have now started using it on her head too, the skin has improved there and it doesn't leave her hair greasy.

As well as being used to prevent nappy rash the lavender nappy salve can be used on other sore patches such as dribble rash, chapped skin, cradle cap, and can also be used as lip balm.

Aria does have a tendency to suffer quite badly with nappy rash, we've always used Sudocrem and find that if we don't apply it thick enough after one nappy change there will be a rash present by the next change.

Unfortunately, we did find that Aria's nappy rash started appearing again when we were exclusively using this product, it is a thick salve and you do have to work it quite a bit before applying, warming it in your fingers so that it can be easily spread onto the desired area. We aren't sure if we had the problem because we simply weren't working it in well enough, which when doing a change at 5am in the morning is easy enough to do or if it is because it doesn't have the antiseptic properties that come with Sudocrem, maybe Aria's sensitive skin just needs this extra bit of help.

For us personally we find using this product alongside Sudocrem works best, i.e. alternating them with each change. This way we are getting the antiseptic properties of the Sudocrem and keeping it natural half of the time.

Pure Potions products are available from www.purepotions.co.uk, selected Holland & Barratt health stores, Day Lewis pharmacies and other independent pharmacies, GPs can also prescribe Skin Salvation.

  1. Nappy rash is a devil, isn't it? We never had much success with Sudocrem but swopped to Metanium because it keeps the area dry. The pure potions look lovely. Caitlin used to have eczema and we still need to be extremely careful about the toiletries we use.
