Aria's Six Month Update

Yesterday Aria turned six months, how has it been half a year already? On the flip side of it going so fast I also struggle to remember a time without her in our lives.

We had her weighed on her six month birthday and she is now weighing 13lbs 2oz. She is still on the second centile but has dropped a little further down the centile than previously, the health visitor wasn't concerned about this and neither am I, she is teething and isn't as interested in her food as usual.

She is now wearing mostly 3-6 month clothing, though still fitting into some of her 0-3 month depending on the brand/style. A lot of her trousers are still 0-3 month as the waists bands on 3-6 month is huge, the 0-3 are a little short but they look okay.

We have also moved up to size three nappies. They look massive but fit her fine.

The only major change this month is that we have started feeding Aria solids. So far she has tried baby rice, baby porridge, sweet potato pureed with milk and banana. It was a slow start and she really wasn't very interested but now she seems to be enjoying it and is opening her mouth wide ready for the food. I'm not quite sure if she enjoys the food or the plastic spoon more, she is teething and chewing on everything and likes to chew on the spoon during feeding time!

Sleep wise, Aria still sleeps through the night but we have had some occasions where she struggles to settle and screams every half hour or so. We think that this is due to teething and have had to resort to Calpol twice now, once she has this she does eventually settle. With regard to naps she still naps quite often during the day but fights it a lot, she usually has a nap in between each bottle, but will sometimes fight it and miss the nap, this usually results in her falling asleep while drinking the next bottle.

Talking of teething, we're expecting a tooth through any day now, Aria hasn't been herself at all this past week and seems to be in constant pain with her mouth, she will put absolutely anything and everything in her mouth. I'm pretty sure that the next update will involve a 'first tooth' milestone card.

She has had a rash on her neck for as long as I can remember, it is always coming and going. When it is bad I wipe the area with a wet wipe in the morning and then cover with Sudocrem, this usually does the trick and clears it up but this time it doesn't seem to be budging. The health visitor noticed it yesterday and said that she thinks it is eczema and advised me to moisturiser it at least once a day.

I mentioned last month that was getting good at grabbing things, she is getting better and better. She is now trying to grab the bottle to feed herself, she hasn't quite worked out how to get the teat in her mouth and usually hits herself in the chin with the bottle but still, baby steps! She is a complete nightmare now when it comes to nappy changes, she tries to grab the dirty nappy, if she manages to get hold of it it goes straight in her mouth, I really need to keep an eye on her and get rid of the nappy straight away.

As well as grabbing she is also throwing, when sitting in her high chair if she manages to get hold of the spoon she will usually throw it, I'm pretty sure this is done on purpose because if there is, for example, a toy of on the tray this doesn't get thrown, also, when she throws it she gives me a little mischievous look.

She is trying her best to sit up and will stay sitting for a little while before toppling over if I put her in the sitting position.  When sitting in the car seat, chair or on our laps she strains to sit up straight, she isn't there yet but is trying very hard.

She is drinking between 4 -5 7oz bottles a day but usually leaves 1-2oz. She is also eating one small meal.

  1. So sweet. Wow six months has flown and yet , like you said, it feels like she has been here forever. They are so cheeky when they get to the dropping stage. Danny would only drop things from his trolley when woemn with long blonde hair were about and he would gesture for them to pick it up. So funny xxx
