We held Aria's birthday party the week before her birthday, her birthday was on a Friday but we wanted the party on a Saturday so that most people could attend, the Saturday after the birthday was my niece's birthday and also my cousin was having her thirtieth birthday party that evening, it made more sense to throw it the week before when there was nothing else going on. This also meant that her actual birthday weekend was free for us to spend how we wanted.
We already knew that we were going to go into town to take her cake smash photos in the studio on the day of her birthday, what better way to spend your birthday than demolishing a cake? We decided that as we were in town already and couldn't do anything else until Aria had been washed we would go swimming, she could shower there before going in the pool. We are very bad parents and hadn't taken her swimming up until this point, we had always intended to but had just never gotten around to it. She loves kicking about in the bath so we knew that she would love swimming. Following our swimming session we treated ourselves to some food in the Leisure Centre, Aria had chicken nuggets and chips.
I like to drag things out for as long as possible so we carried on the celebrations on the Saturday. There were two special things that I wanted to treat her to for her first birthday - her first pair of shoes and her first McDonalds - I told you they were special! We headed into town and over to Clarks so that we could have her shoes fitted and get the first shoes photo taken. What I didn't consider was the fact that Aria is so small and that her feet aren't yet big enough for shoes. Which reminds me I must try again, hopefully they have grown a bit in the past two months.
Disappointed with the lack of shoes we took a walk over to McDonalds where we soon cheered up with naughty but enjoyable food. Aria had a plain cheeseburger, fries and a fruit shoot. She wasn't so keen on the burger, she mainly picked the cheese off it and ate that with the bread and chips! Aria loves to be the centre of attention so sitting in the highchair and receiving comments off strangers was amazing for her, she even managed to grab the attention of passers by through the window, I don't know how she does it, well actually, I do, she is adorable.
Spencer and I thoroughly enjoyed celebrating Aria's first birthday with her, we are pretty sure that she enjoyed it too!
